Having bought this book ahead of a planned trip to Copenhagen, I was excited to see just what was so different about Danish life that makes the Danes the happiest nation in the world. Continue reading “Reading List // The Year of Living Danishly – Helen Russell”
Reading List // The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho
This book totally passed me by! I never used to be much of a reader, especially of fiction books, so I missed all the hype that lead to The Alchemist becoming one of the world’s most read books, selling over 150 million copies.
Having seen a lot of people’s “it changed my life” statements about it, followed by many a “don’t know what the hype is about” comments, I figured I needed to find out for myself.

Reading List // Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance – Barack Obama
With Barack Obama ending his 8 year term as President of the United States, and all the media that came with it, I realised that I didn’t know much about the man before the White House.
Knowing that he’d had a few books published, many years before his election campaign, I decided to add these to my reading list to learn about his upbringing and what led him to go into politics.
Reading List // KP: The Autobiography
Even people who don’t follow cricket know who Kevin Pietersen is. Bursting into the spotlight during England’s glorious 2005 Ashes win, KP, the South African with the three lions inked on his arm.
Coming soon after his acrimonious exit from the ECB setup, though it covers all aspects of his career, it’s his time with England that this book focuses on. Continue reading “Reading List // KP: The Autobiography”
Reading List // Born To Run – Bruce Springsteen
Watching Bruce Springsteen perform you wouldn’t imagine that he was someone full of insecurities, anxiety and suffering from depression. But reading ‘Born To Run’, his story from New Jersey schoolboy to international rock star, it’s this that is a constant thread on his journey.
The other, his love of rock n roll.

Reading List // Yes Please – Amy Poehler
Amy Poehler’s ‘Yes Please’ was a book that cropped up on so many, “books you need to read” lists, that I couldn’t not read it.
Having previously read Tina Fey’s ‘Bossypants’ I kinda had an inkling that I would enjoy ‘Yes Please’, and I was right, it had the same style with a similarly funny lady behind the book.
Reading List // You Are A Badass – Jen Sincero
After one of my best friends recommended this book as being awesome it was already on my list of books to read. So when it came up as Audible’s Deal of the Day I decided, “what better time than now to start being a badass!”.
Firstly I love Jen Sincero’s style of writing. Secondly, I love Jen Sincero’s narration of her own writing.

Reading List // You Don’t Know Me But – Clarke Carlisle
Being a football fan I do know who Clarke Carlisle is, and I already knew little pieces of his story. Chairman of the PFA, the Premier League footballer who appeared on Countdown and supporter of anti-racism in football campaigns.
I was also aware that he is possibly the only modern day footballer to speak so openly about suffering from depression. Continue reading “Reading List // You Don’t Know Me But – Clarke Carlisle”
Reading List // When Breath Becomes Air – Paul Kalanithi
I’d seen this book mentioned on a couple of “Books You Must Read” and “Books Of 2016” lists, so preordered a copy of the paperback which was released January 5th.
Paul Kalanithi was 36 and close to graduating as a neurosurgeon when he was diagnosed with stage IV terminal lung cancer.
That’s when he began writing this book, sadly, although he did graduate, he died before he could finish it. Continue reading “Reading List // When Breath Becomes Air – Paul Kalanithi”
Reading List // You Will Not Have My Hate – Antoine Leiris
The events of November 13th 2015 are still pretty fresh for most of us. The horrific attacks on the city of Paris were very close to home, innocent people enjoying nights out with friends brutally killed by terrorists.
One of the most powerful statements to come from this was a Facebook post by Antoine Leiris, a letter to his wife Hélène’s killers, this book is Antoine’s diary of the weeks following the attack. Continue reading “Reading List // You Will Not Have My Hate – Antoine Leiris”
